Obituary

Curtis Gene Atneosen, 81, passed from this life into eternal life at his home in Lynden, Washington. He was born in St. James, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Helen Atneosen. Curtis was raised in St. Paul, Minnesota along with his three brothers and two sisters.

Curtis graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1958. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Bachelor of Science with distinction in 1975, and graduated from the Lutheran Brethren Seminary, Master of Theology 1975. Curtis served in the United States Army and Army Reserve 1956-1965 with the 6th Army Band and the 103rd Division Army Band.

Ordained as a Lutheran Minister at Stavanger Lutheran in Fergus Falls, Minnesota 1976, Curtis loved Jesus and sharing the Gospel. He served congregations in Minnesota and Washington State, including: Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN (youth worker), Stavanger Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN, Aurdal Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN, Faith Lutheran Brethren, Church, Kelso, MN, Served as President of the Church of Lutheran Brethren Pacific District, Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN, Bethel Lutheran Church, Bellingham, WA

Provided regular pulpit supply for congregations in Western Washington, including: Cornerstone Community Church, Ferndale, WA, United Methodist Church, Lynden, WA, Grace Lutheran, Edmonds, WA, Hope Lutheran, Lynden, WA, Curtis taught Sunday school and evening classes at First Reformed Church in Lynden, WA

Curtis drove professionally for Twin City Lines, United Parcel Service, and various school districts in Minnesota and Washington.  He retired from the Bellingham School District, Bellingham, WA. Curtis served as a Support Officer with the Support Officer Ministry of Whatcom County Washington for fifteen years.

Curtis earned his Choice Theory and Reality Therapy Certification through the William Glasser Institute. During retirement years he enjoyed mentoring students through the “Be the One” program in Lynden, WA. He loved music and played saxophone for over seventy years, playing in churches and with other music groups. 

Preceded in death by parents Clarence and Helen Atneosen, brothers Richard and Dennis Atneosen, and sister Sandra Gail Van Fossen.

Is survived by wife Katharine Atneosen, daughter Kristi Thies (Cliff), daughter Kari Olson (Todd), son Keith Atneosen (Lauren), brother Larry D. Atneosen (Susan), sister Linda D. Perrault (Dale).

His "Celebration of Faith" Service will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM, Cornerstone Community Church, 5732 Olson Road, Ferndale, WA.
