Wendy Rose (Mehus) Kenoyer went to Heaven to be with her personal savior Jesus on September 23rd, 2018. She passed peacefully, as per her wishes, unafraid, and with family at her side.
Wendy was born to Russell and Marjorie Mehus in North Bellingham, January 22nd, 1951, where she lived on Smith Rd. until 1956 when the family moved to Wilson Ave. in the Happy Valley neighborhood. She was part of Sehome High School’s second graduating class in 1969.
While she did spend some of her adult life living in Seattle, San Francisco, and Albany, OR, she was a Whatcom County girl at heart, and she married James Kenoyer in Bellingham on May 20th, 1978, where they started their family. They spent most of their years in Lynden, where she prized her kitchen window view of the berry fields she picked with friends in her youth, and Mt. Baker, when “her” mountain was out. She spent her final years in the house she and Jim built in Blaine, three blocks up from her beloved grandchildren, who were always welcome to wander up and see what sort of treats Grandma might have for them. She never disappointed.
Wendy made life-long friends in just about every job she worked, from fashion merchandising school, to IGM, to Mount Baker Mutual Savings, title and escrow work in Albany, years in medical records, and in what she called her “retirement job” in the Bingo halls in Blaine. She made the time to stay home and raise her daughter, coaching little league soccer, chaperoning band trips, and later often provided care for her grandchildren. And also many cats.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents, “Mikki” and “Russ,” sister Judy (Joseph) Gregg, and infant brother Gary.
She is survived by her “hubby” of 40 years James, brother Michael (Lois), sister Janet (Rick) McCauley, daughter Mikael (Nick) McDonald, grandchildren Donovan, Ramsey, and Rowen, nieces and nephews Sari, Alaina, Ian, Leah, Shea-Anne, Timothy, Brandon, Mitchell, Skyler, and Bradley.
One of Wendy’s great joys was the beach, and as such, her Celebration of Life will be one final beach party at the Victoria Room at the Semiahmoo Resort, Saturday October 6th, 1-4 pm. Although a lover of flowers (daisies and roses in particular) and a prolific gardener for most of her life, she’d prefer any remembrances be made in the form of a donation. Her favorite charities were ChildFund International and The Lighthouse Mission.
