Susan Dickinson

Susan Dickinson, age 70, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham, Washington on March 27, 2017.  Susan, known as “Susie” by many, was born in Bellingham, and lived most of her life on Lummi Island, Washington.  She loved and cared for husband “Larry” (Bob) Morse for 47 wonderful years - their childhood friendship grew into love and they married in 1990.  After receiving her teaching degree from Western Washington University in 1970, Susan taught middle school math in the Ferndale School District for 37 years before retiring. She then became a math instructor at Washington Engineering Institute, and finally a math tutor for Bellingham Technical College’s Tutoring Center for the past 8 years.  Math was her second language and she enjoyed introducing others to an understanding of it.  In addition to teaching math to her students, young and old, Susie cared for and nurtured them.  She touched thousands of lives over her teaching career.  Susie’s generosity and kindness will be greatly missed and remembered by her family, friends and students.  She loved beauty and grew many daffodils, begonias and peonies.  Susan’s love of beauty and design was also reflected in the recent completion of the family’s dream home.  When she was not playing in the garden, Susan was mowing the family’s vast lawn as well as numerous neighbors’ lawns out of the gratefulness of her heart. Susan was preceded in death by her parents Lucille and Mic and step-mother Mae. She is survived by her husband Bob Morse, her beloved dogs Lucky and Matia, aunt Doris Bayha of Tacoma, cousins James and Chuck Bayha, sister-in-law Joan Kammerzell (Morse), brothers-in law Kirk Kammerzell and John Morse, nephews Nathan, Trevor and Jeremy Kammerzell, Canadian cousins John (Bunny) Cruickshank and David (Jean) Cruickshank, Oregon cousins Steven, Brenda and Tom Morse, Laurel and Jewell Peterson, her sisters by heart, and her dear friends Molly Harmoney, Jane Phillips and Mary Lee Swope.  A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 P.M., at Settlemyer Hall, Campus Center Building at Bellinghom Technical College, 3028 Lindbergh Ave., Bellingham, WA 98225.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lummi Island Congregational Church Parish Health Ministry, 3913 Legoe Bay Rd. PO Box 6, Lummi Island, WA 98262, or your favorite charity.
