Obituary

Steven Lloyd Baker was born August 30, 1948 to Martin and Barbara Baker in Bellingham, WA. He attended Blaine Schools, graduating in the class of 1966. He worked at Georgia Pacific until joining the Army and serving honorably for 4 years, 4 months and 12 days.

While stationed in Van Nuys, he met Jo Ann, a nurse on her weekend off in Santa Monica. They married in October of 1970 and came back to Birch Bay, where they made their home of 50 years on the Anderson Road.

Steven attended Western Washington University, where he earned his accounting degree. He worked for the Lummi Business Council as a Senior Accountant and a Budget Officer before transitioning to work at Border Brokerage, which later became UPS, and from where he retired in 2010.

He was a pitching coach under Gary Clausen at BHS in the 80’s and 90’s, when his three sons played baseball. He was a great photographer and enjoyed taking sports, landscape and nature photographs in the pre-digital era.

Steven loved his sons Scott (Anne), Robert (Amy) and Matthew, and was always present at their school activities as coach or photographer. He delighted in his grandchildren Dustin (Lauren), Riley, Madison, Olivia and step-grandchildren James and Savannah.

He enjoyed traveling, visiting friends, cooking, telling stories and sharing his unique humor with others.

He passed away August 7, 2026 after complications post surgery. He passed peacefully surrounded by loving family.

Steven was a loving husband, father, grandfather, cousin, son, friend, nephew and brother. He will be missed.
