Stephen Roy Dodd

December 23, 1939 — February 18, 2024

Ferndale

Stephan Roy Dodd, age 84, of Ferndale after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Steve passed peacefully from this world. He is survived by his wife Linda, son Greg, Brother Phil (Carroll), sister Susan and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Julia Dodd, his son Michael James, Brother Stan (Christine) and Brother-In-Law Keith Bakker (Susan).

Steve lived his early years growing up by Wiser Lake, attending Meridian High School and graduating with the class of 1958. He excelled in sports and was a high achiever in school, later attending the University of Washington, Western Washington University and finally ending up working at Georgia Pacific where he retired after 36 years.

Steve met and married his Wife of 61 years, Linda (Peterson) of Bellingham and raised their two sons Gregory Wallace and Michael James (deceased). As a family their life was filled with lots of activities. His passions were the mountains and woods surrounding Bellingham, camping, hiking and fishing the streams with his dad, brother and his boys. They tried to never miss a clam tide and crabbing with Mick, his longtime friend, was the absolute BEST he looked forward to. When there was no clam tide or it wasn’t crab season, of course there was always a golf course waiting for him and his buddies.

Steve was heavily involved in Boy Scouts, achieving Eagle Scout and working at Black Mountain for many summers. He encouraged his son Mike to become involved in Boy Scouts and together they worked to achieve the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, the highest award in the scouting program.

To let Steve go is extremely difficult. A gentle, loving father and husband, we know he is no longer suffering and will remain in our hearts forever and not forgotten.

A note to my friends and neighbors at Portal Creek Park: My heart is full of gratitude for all your caring support, comfort, gifts of food and prayers during this sad time.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be planned at a later date
