Stanley Melvin Sebens, known affectionately as Stan, aged 72, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on January 4, 2024. Born on March 30, 1951, in Mount Vernon, Washington, to Mona May Andrews Thomas and Edward Richard Sebens, Stan’s life was marked by a profound love for his family, his country, and the great outdoors.
Throughout his life, Stan lived in various places, though he chose to settle in the serene surroundings of Maple Falls, Washington. His enduring spirit and loving presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Stan is survived by his son, Noel Sebens, and his ex-wife Nancy Caporusso. His legacy continues through his four grandchildren, Eric Sebens, Alexandra (Jeremy) Bunker, Cameron (Tressa) Bergsma, and Noah Bergsma, as well as his five great-grandchildren, Bodhi, Brooklyn, Atlas, Blair, and Zoey. He also leaves behind his sisters, Diane Roos and Linda Knapp, along with multiple nieces and nephews, all whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mona May Thomas, his father, Ed Sebens, his stepfather, Vernon Thomas, and his brother, Gaylord Sebens, who was killed in action.
Stan was not only a devoted family man but also a proud veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. His military service was distinguished by several honors, including the Vietnam Service Medal with a bronze service star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with a '60 device, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
An entrepreneur at heart, Stan was the owner and operator of a landscaping company, employing his love for nature in his everyday work. His passions included camping, gold panning, and spending time outdoors, often accompanied by animals that he adored. A man of faith, he held his love for God close to his heart, which guided him throughout his life.
A memorial service to honor Stan's life and his service to the nation will be held at Lynden Monumenta Cemetery on June 3, 2024. The service will include a Military tribute and the sounding of seven taps, symbolizing the final farewell to a true patriot.
