Shirley Ann Salazar Joven (Loxo' te mie or Nonny), age 77, of Deming passed away at her home Monday, September 20, 2021. She was born December 9, 1943 in Marysville. She was a wife/mom/auntie/sister/grandma/great grandma/cat mama and good friend. Her last breath was taken at home, in the arms of her husband. Daughter to Lydia Johnny and Benny Salazar. Sister to Diana Escobar who continues her journey on earth. She met her husband Jovie (aka Arnie) in Seattle. They have two daughters Deborah and Diana. Shirley worked as a bookkeeper in San Francisco for Cokesbury, Sears, and Coors in the 70s. She ran her own business in the 80s and 90s as a manufacturing rep in the Silicon Valley. Shirley was the glue that held the family together. She and Jovie threw the best gatherings for family and friends. Many who have lived with them at some time in their life. She made sure everyone was well fed and loved. Shirley and Jovie loved to jump in the car and drive. They lived life and had adventures. When they were young, she would get gussied up and they would go out to the city with their friends and dance all night. She loved watching Animal Planet, the Discovery Channel, Days of our Lives, shopping with her daughters, playing card games on her computer, and at 76 years of age she joined Facebook. Many describe her as fun, generous, kind, supportive, darn cute, brave, strong, and beautiful. She loved each and every one of us especially her furry kids Frankie and Fiona. Shirley will be loved and missed forever. Her family wants to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Nooksack Tribe, St. Joseph Medical Center, and Davita Dialysis Center for helping her live as long as she did. Thank you to the CHRs who took her to dialysis and doctor appointments. Thank you to the Nooksack Tribe, friends and neighbors who helped her and Jovie live safely and comfortably at their home at Rutsatz. Thank you in advance to those who are here to support those she left behind. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm at Sig’s Funeral & Cremation Services. Shirley’s family suggests memorial donations be made to the Whatcom Humane Society, 2172 Division St., Bellingham, WA 98226.
