Sharon Evelyn White

October 5, 1942 — July 7, 2025

Bellingham

Sharon Evelyn White, born October 5, 1942 in Ford County, Illinois, died in Bellingham, Washington on July 7, 2025, at age 82. Her father, Chester White, died when Sharon was only 6 months old. Her mother, Ethel, and older siblings, Patsy, Donald and Mary raised her.

She received her Registered Nurse’s training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. In the early 1970s she moved to Samish Island along with her husband Joseph Slattery. She began working at Skagit Valley Hospital in the maternity ward and it was here that she began lifelong friendships. As Sharon’s marriage ended her nursing career expanded when she received a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Washington. Later in San Francisco she earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration.

Sharon cherished her many friendships and was the reason for so many great memories. When a play or concert was coming to town she would be on the phone getting a group together for an evening out. Summer street fairs were another favorite activity where she bought jewelry, pottery and art directly from the artists. Some items for herself and others for lucky recipients of her gifts. Book clubs were always on her calendar no matter where she lived. Conversations with Sharon included “have you read any good books lately?” In Seaside Oregon she completed the master gardener program, and her skills showed in the lovely flower garden she nurtured at her home on Elm Street in Bellingham. Sharon always made time to volunteer, either caring for kittens at the shelter or helping travelers enjoy Whatcom County when they stopped by the visitor information center.

For the past 9 years Sharon lived at the Affinity apartments in Bellingham. Once again, great and meaningful friendships were formed. She will be so missed.

Sharon is survived by a sister, Mary Rogers, of Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services per her request.
