Ruth A. (Nicolaas) Brown, age 61, of Birch Bay, WA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday November 22, 2025.
Ruth was born in Bellingham, WA on April 10, 1964 to Elmer and Betty Nicolaas. She attended Roeder Elementary before moving with her family to Ferndale.
Ruth grew up with her five siblings on the Axton Road in Ferndale, and then moved to Blaine in 1979, where she attended Blaine High School. She loved reading, baseball, camping, being outdoors, animals, the Demo Derby and the women only powder puff demo derby.
In 1994, Ruth married her soulmate, Don Brown, at the Bonanza Ponderosa Ranch in Lake Tahoe. She worked at several jobs, including Sea K Fish, Recomp, Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club, and Birch Bay Leisure Park.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Steve and Ron. She is survived by her husband Don Brown; two sons, Brandon (Anny Jo) Brown and Keaton (Carlynn) Brown; five grandchildren; step-dad Frank Barnes, whom she loved dearly; brothers, Ray (Peg) Nicolaas and Rick Nicolaas; sister Shelly Nicolaas; step-sister Julie (Craig) Daily; and many other extended family members.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday December 13, 2025 at 1pm at Hillsdale Cemetery, 4504 California Trail, Blaine, WA, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:30pm at Fern Hill Acres, 4400 Rural Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98226. Mini sandwiches and chili will be provided; if you would like to bring a side dish (potluck style) or dessert, it would be appreciated.
