Russell L. Haggen, Sr., age 80, of Bellingham passed away at his home Tuesday, December 26, 2023. He was born in Seattle, WA, June 15, 1943 to US Army Staff Sergeant Bud and Josephine (Horman) Haggen.
Russ graduated from Bellingham High School in 1961 and then started as a 3rd generation Carpenter at the Local 756 (now local 70) where he was a active member for 61 years. He served on their apprentice committee, and was past President and Secretary of the Union.
He taught the Carpentry program at Cascade Job Corps Center in Sedro-Woolley retiring from there after many years teaching. Russ was an avid Studebaker Collector and helped start the Whatcom County Studebaker Owners Club.
He married the love of his life Hazel Sluys, January 25, 1964. Together they built a home where Russ had a severe stroke 17 years ago. Russ attended Christ the King Church in Bellingham for over 25 years.
He is survived by wife; Hazel of 60 years; son, Rusty; daughter, Wendy; granddaughter, Jaelie; brother, Joel (Vicki) and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024, 11:00 AM at the Christ the King Church, 4173 Meridian Street, Bellingham, Washington 98226.
Memorials can be made to any local Food Bank.
