Ruby Allen Bays, formerly of Lexington, Kentucky, was born in Langley, Kentucky, on October 29, 1920, at the home place on the family farm and died Thursday, January 2, 2014, in Ferndale, Washington. Mrs. Bays, daughter of Felix Milton Allen and Laura Belle Allen Turner Allen was preceded in death by her parents (1954) and siblings: Virgil Osmer Turner, Andrew Jackson Turner, Oliver Cromwell Allen, Ruth Allen, Paul Allen, Opal Allen and Ronda Allen Wilson. She is survived by her sister, Rhoda Allen (Robert) Miller of Tyrone, PA as well as her children Pamela B. (Michael) Chaplin of Ferndale, WA; Claud A. (Julie) Bays of Colorado Springs, CO; Robert M. (Susan) Bays of Winchester, KY; John P. (Sally) Bays of Salisbury, NC; daughter-in-law Nancy Perry Schaffer; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bays attended The Berea Academy, Berea, Kentucky, graduating in 1938 and was a 1942 graduate (B.A., Chemistry) of Berea College. Following her graduation she married classmate, Claud Miller Bays and worked during World War II at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore, Maryland, as a supervisor reading blueprints and overseeing final construction of wing assemblies for the Martin Marauder during the time her husband was a medical student at The Johns Hopkins University. For over twenty-two years she taught high school chemistry at Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky. She retired in 1988. A memorial service and committal of ashes will be held later this year at the family cemetery on the farm of her beloved family home in Langley, Kentucky.
