Robin Irene Taketa, age 68, passed away on June 17th in Bellingham after a decade-long battle with dementia. Born to Daniel and Patricia (Lee) Rasset in Bismarck, ND on May 14th, 1955, Robin moved to Aberdeen, WA during high school. She then moved to Bellingham where she attended Western Washington University and met her husband Glenn while working at the High Country restaurant. The pair married in 1983, had two children together, and Robin spent the remainder of her life in Bellingham with her family.
Robin is remembered for being a caring mother, wife, and sister who was full of life. She loved to smile, laugh, and never took herself too seriously. Robin spent her free time enjoying the outdoors, trying out new recipes, crafting, and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved animals and treated her pets like children - the dogs got a home-cooked meal every night for dinner which always baffled guests. Robin was heavily involved in her children’s schools, always willing to chaperone a field trip or pop into the classroom to drop off a forgotten lunch. She left her mark on the Bellingham community by helping to establish a new neighborhood park, Happy Valley Park.
She is survived by husband Glenn, son Tyler, daughter Kalyn, granddaughter Brianna, brothers Terry, Daniel, Kelly, and Kevin, sister Kathie, and many nieces and nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by brother Tim and sister Laura.
A private family graveside service will be held at Bayview Cemetery on June 29th, with a celebration of life on Saturday, July 1st.
