Robert J. Main

Robert James Main, aged 61, of Ferndale, Washington, passed peacefully in his sleep at Whatcom Hospice House. Robert was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada to Harold and Louise (York) Main, joining his siblings Melvin, Ruth, Louis, Alice, Jimmy, Helen, Kenny and Nancy.

Grandpa Main valued family above all else. Even before the grandchildren came along for rides in the “Grandpa Express” wagon he taught his children during late night games of baseball and tag the value of being there for each other. He brought us all together even here in the end.

Dad’s idea of hard work and creativity were instilled in us through the many projects he completed with us, even the ones that weren’t completed. One Christmas we received some of our favorite gifts, hammers engraved with our names and nails to help with the current project.

Dad’s sense of humor can be summed up with the two words: Silly Salad. A block of ice cream split six ways as the “greens,” topped with candy cherry (tomatoes), banana (cucumbers), vanilla wafer (croutons), and no lack of chocolate syrup “dressing!” He taught us to always enjoy the randomness life can bring and to make life fun.

His memory lovingly remains in the hearts of his wife, Christeli; his six children, Robbie, Diana, Lynda, Lisa, Melissa and Pamela; and his eight grandchildren, Rebekah, Emily, Alexander, Hannah, Lauren, Abigail, Lucas and Mackayla. He is now reunited with his daughters, Elizabeth and Christine, his siblings Melvin, Louis, Alice, Jimmy, Kenny, and Nancy, and his mother, Louise, and father, Harold.

A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday December 28, 2013 at 4:00pm at the Bellingham Stake Center in Ferndale, 2500 Thornton Road, Ferndale
