Robert Stanley Gunderson

Robert "Rob" Gunderson passed away, at his home, in Bellingham on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the age of 74.

Rob graduated from Bellingham High School and attended Bellingham Technical College where he completed the machining program. He worked as an automotive machinist at Nesbit in Bellingham before he went to work at Georgia Pacific where he worked the remainder of his 40+ years.

He obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his family and friends all over Washington State, especially the San Juan Islands. He spent a lot of his time, with his sons, building and restoring cars, boats and planes. He traveled the west coast doing car shows with his family and old time nostalgic drags before purchasing dragster.  He spent several summers racing his dragster all over the Pacific Northwest with his sons. He also loved spending time camping and fishing with his family and friends.

Rob is survived by his wife Sue; his twin brother Ken Gunderson; his sons Leroy, Paul, Jeremy (Sarah), Jason (Michelle), Jeff (Kara); his 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and his cat Mickey.

A private family graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ferndale.

A celebration of Rob’s life will be announced at a later date.

If you would like to honor Rob in some way, please donate to Whatcom Hospice Foundation (2901 Squalicum Parkway - Bellingham, WA 98225).
