Orville Lee Golden

Orville “Lee” Golden was born in Kermit, Texas to Louise and Floyd Golden on August 28, 1941. As a very little boy his family moved back to Washington where Lee was raised with his three older sisters in Tacoma by his brave and hardworking mother. Lee’s family moved to Montesano when he was in High School, and it was there that he met a high school friend’s sister and fell in love. Lee and Barbara Nelson ran away and were married in Idaho, on October 16, 1963. Returning a few days later they made a home in Aberdeen and finally settled in Montesano, where they would raise their family create memories and enjoy life with special friends. Lee completed a two year apprenticeship and became a union electrician, a trade he continued until his retirement in 2002. Lee and Barb were married 24 wonderful years and had two remarkable daughters, Renee and Christina. He took his family on many adventures: traveling, camping, hiking, and sailing just to name a few. Lee enjoyed nothing more than watching his daughters and grandsons play sports and dedicated time to his children as he coached them both daughters in fast pitch. Lee and Barb built their dream home in 1978 on seven acres along the West Satsop River in Montesano. With that beautiful acreage Lee was afforded the opportunity to have horses and become the cowboy he always was in his heart. He loved riding horses and Appaloosas were his favorite. True to his loves, Lee was a member of the Mc Cleary Riders and The Appaloosa Horse Club. He rode all over Western Washington and the Western United States; and especially enjoyed traversing the Capitol Forest and the Enchanted Valley. With his trusty horse Chaco, Lee participated in the Chief Joseph Trail Ride from 1991 thru 2012, completing the 13 year ride almost twice. Lee spent all his free time riding with his friends and family. Carrying on the family tradition of horsemanship, Lee taught all of his grandsons to ride. He rode his beloved Appaloosa, Chaco for 19 years, and we are sure they are together again riding the trails of Heaven. Along with riding Lee loved to travel, making it all the way to Europe twice. He loved country music and dancing and taught country line dance through community schools in Montesano. Most of all Lee loved to have fun, he was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and ladies’ man. He passed away very peacefully in his sleep, early in the morning on May 15, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents and Barbara. Lee is survived by daughters; Renee and husband Gary Davis, Christina and her husband John Salstrom; His engaging spirit carries on in his 4 grandchildren; Blake Davis, Spenser Bednarik, Cole and Quinton Salstrom; His big sisters; Shirley Stewart, Cathy Fisher, and Linda Jefferson and many loving nieces and nephews. His daughters are planning a celebration of life which will be held later this summer and will be announced.
