In remembrance of

Opal Goldstein McGuinn

October 27, 1924 - May 1, 2022

Opal passed away peacefully at home at the age of 97 years old.

Opal was born to Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Anderson and was raised in Alexandria, Louisiana, with her two sisters and brother. She attended Tuskegee University, in Alabama, where she graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (R.N.). She later attained a Master of Public Health Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Opal was a staff nurse at several general hospitals in Los Angeles, CA. She retired after many years from the Los Angeles Unified School District where she was a loving and caring school nurse.

Opal was a proud lifetime member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

While at Tuskegee University, she met her husband, Joel O. McGuinn. They lived in Louisiana, Texas, and Los Angeles, CA. Upon their retirement, they moved to Bellingham, WA. Her dear husband preceded her in death in 2012. Opal is survived by sons, Gregory (Denyse) and Anthony (Karen); grandsons, Maxwell (Sasha) and Marcus; and her great granddaughter, Millie.

Opal and Joel enjoyed world travel, visiting the Caribbean, Soviet Union, China, Egypt, Israel, Greece and throughout Europe. In addition, she enjoyed camping with her family in Yosemite National Park, Washington, Oregon, and Western Canada. Opal genuinely lived life to the fullest, she loved to play the piano and sing, not only at home but with her church choir. She was an avid bridge club participant and an active volunteer in her community. Opal loved to entertain, she was a wonderful and gracious hostess, and many fond memories were made especially during the holiday celebrations.

Opal will be remembered as a warm loving wife, mother, grandma, and friend. She is truly missed.

A private family graveside service was held at the Veterans Memorial Wall, Bayview Cemetery, Bellingham, WA.
