Nola Dean (Powell) Cooper, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 in Lynden, WA.
Nola was born in Concrete, WA on April 26, 1932 and grew up in Rockport and Marblemount, WA with her parents, Edward and Opal Clark, and her brother, Druery (Dru) Clark. She was an outstanding student and skipped two grades of school. Despite being younger than her classmates, she got all A’s - except for a B+ in Physical Education - and graduated as Valedictorian from Concrete High School in 1948.
In June 1951, Nola married James Lee Powell, a transplant from Colorado. In time, they moved to Oak Harbor where Nola enjoyed homemaking, reading, and camping in Conconully and Lake Tyee with family and their lifelong friends, Dudley and Judy Ross, and their families. She and Lee also traveled to Hawaii and England several times.
Nola was a remarkable cook who, according to family lore, only made one memorable mistake - an orange pie - which no one let her forget.
In 1999, Lee and Nola relocated to Lynden, WA where Lee eventually succumbed to Alzheimer’s. In 2010, Nola married David Ray Cooper who devotedly loved and cared for her in the winter season of their lives. Nola was warmly adopted into Dave’s family and Linda Block became like a daughter to her. Her in-laws, Jim and Audrey Jim Block, also became dear friends.
Nola is survived by her son, Roy Powell and his wife, Belinda of Phoenix, AZ; her son Rod Powell and his wife, Margi of Tigard, OR; her son Glenn Powell and his wife, Linda of Lynden, WA. Nola is also survived by her seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at Christ Community Church in Blaine, WA at 2pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
