Nels Arne Kalhovde

Nels Arne Kalhovde, age 62, of Bellingham passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 following a 14 month battle with GBM.

He was born June 22, 1951, in Bellingham to parents Martin and Constance (Molland) Kalhovde.

Nels graduated from Meridian High school “class of 1969” and graduated from Western Washington University in 1973, with a Bachelor’s of Art in Industrial Art. Nels worked for Sea Sport boat and Kalhovde Boat Works, as well as an Alaska commercial fisherman. Nels married Valerie Anne (Urdal) August 4, 1973 in Pullman, Washington. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, developing many lasting relationships. He loved the Lord and his greatest desire was for others to follow Christ. Nels was a great father to their two children, Eric and Kristin (Jesse) Olin.

Nels is survived by his wife of 40 years Valerie, children, and his sister Anne and her husband Paul, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm Friday November 8, at Grace Baptist Fellowship, Lynden, Washington, with a private family burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Fellowship (Lynden WA)- Men’s ministry or to Cascade Christian Services (P.O. Box 3174, Ferndale, WA 98248), or to Hospice of Whatcom County.
