Obituary

Neal Roger Langley passed away peacefully at home in Bellingham, Washington, on September 30, 2026, at age 87, following complications from Parkinson’s disease. He will be remembered with love and gratitude for his life, faith, and devotion to family and friends.

Born in Sumas, Washington, Neal was the son of James W. “Wes” Langley and Genevieve Louise Langley and middle brother to David and Bruce. A 1957 graduate of Nooksack Valley High School, he cherished his hometown friendships and attended his 69th class reunion just weeks before his passing.

Neal earned a chemical engineering degree from the University of Washington in 1961, served two years in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps, and received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1967. He enjoyed a 30-year career as an analytical research scientist with Dow Corning Corporation in Midland, Michigan, retiring in 1999.

Neal married Glenda Gibbon in 1961, and they raised three children: Craig, Patricia, and Ken. He was a devoted father who enjoyed camping and traveling with his children and encouraged their involvement in school, church, and community activities. Their marriage ended in 1979.

In 1980, Neal met Mary Rathbun Andridge at church. Their relationship grew into a marriage that united two families and brought together five children, ages 11 to 15. Blending their families brought new adventures, adjustments, and challenges, along with many meaningful memories. Their shared faith and commitment to seeking God’s guidance provided a strong foundation as they built their life together.

Following Neal’s retirement, they traveled in their fifth-wheel RV to visit family and friends around the U.S. Eventually, they began spending part of each year in Bellingham in 2002 and made it their permanent home in 2017.

Neal enjoyed gardening projects with Mary, duplicate bridge, golf, tennis, biking, and hiking. Above all, he treasured his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, watching their blended family grow, creating new generations of family connections and treasured memories.

A devoted member of First Baptist Churches in Midland and Bellingham, Neal served through teaching, church leadership, maintenance projects, and transportation assistance for those who needed a ride to church.

Neal is survived by his wife, Mary of 46 years; children Craig (Wendy) Langley, Patricia (Matt) LeVasseur, and Ken Langley; stepsons Jeffrey (Kasandra) Andridge and David (Ilene) Andridge; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Bruce (Lynn) Langley; sisters-in-law Joyce Langley; and Linda Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Langley, and brothers-in-law Norman Sullivan and Warren Rathbun.
