Nan Brooks Goodell, born March 20, 1928 in Gardner, Massachusetts and passed away December 12, 2012, Bellingham, Washington.

Nan met her husband Harvey Edward Goodell II in Pittsfield, Massachusetts after graduating with a degree in Early Childhood Education in Boston.

They lived in Williamstown, Massachusetts for 56 years where they raised their family before moving to Bellingham in 2010 to be closer to their children in Washington & Alaska. She leaves behind her husband, Harvey, children and families: Suzanne Goodell & Chris Drilias and Wesley; Harvey Goodell III & Wendy Beck and Naomi and Celeste; Ellen & Robert Hutton and Cody and Ben; and Deborah Goodell & Douglas Hogen and Adam and Sophia. She was preceded in death by her parents, and oldest brother, Herbert E. Brooks II. Her sister, Martha B. Stearns; brother, Stephan A. Brooks; stepbrothers Kim Saurino and Ned Saurino; and many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive her.

Nan and Harv enjoyed life in New England with family camping trips, gardening and preserving, hiking, cross-country skiing, and swimming in the ocean and ponds. Nan was known far and wide for her love of baking and shared the fruits of her labors. She gave in so many different ways to her church and community, and thoroughly enjoyed her warm connections with each and every person she touched.

They embraced their home at The Willows, Bellingham and thoroughly enjoyed having frequent visits with their children and grandchildren and daytrips in the Pacific Northwest.

In her memory, donations can be made to your favorite charity, while keeping in mind Nan’s passions and interests of early childhood education and cancer support.

A memorial service, officiated by Kent French from the First Congregational Church of Bellingham, WA was held at The Willows on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.
