Mickey Wayne Askew

October 29, 1956 — October 21, 2022

Snohomish, WA

Mickey Wayne Askew of Snohomish, WA passed away at his home early Friday morning, October 21, 2022, with his son at his side, as the result of both heart and blood diseases.  Mickey was born October 29, 1956, to parents Edson (Bud) and Beverly (Bev) (Johnson) Askew.  Mickey lived his entire life in the Pacific Northwest between King and Snohomish counties, growing up in Kenmore and graduating from Inglemoor High School.  In 1985 Mickey married his soulmate and love of many years, Kathy Watson, and they had a son, Sam, born in January of 1994.  The pride and love they felt for their precious son will be everlasting.  They lived on Echo Lake in a beautiful home that they built together; a special place for the 3 of them.  Mickey worked for many years in the lumber business for Par Dee Sales, Inc.  Mickey had a great sense of humor and loved life.  Even when he was very sick he was in good spirits, and if he could talk, he cracked a joke.  As Sam said, “I don’t know how Dad could be so happy when he was so sick.”  Mickey loved good food like nonother and he could tell you exactly what he ate on every vacation.  He enjoyed family events and he and Kathy hosted many of them at their home.  Mickey loved his family and friends and every year he put on a very large Fourth of July party at the lake.  Mickey also loved to fish and the fact that he could fish right off his very own dock.  He was quite proud of the fish he caught and even prouder to watch visitors catching big trout; he was always there with his camera cheering them on.  Mick and Kathy’s was the place that everyone went for the opening day of fishing, always a great early morning party!  Mick was also a sensitive guy, always worried about everyone else’s feelings, a very hard worker, and a massive fighter, as he proved during his illness.  Mickey’s Harley Davidson was his most prized possession, and he was happiest when he was riding freely.  He spent many days riding with his brother Bob and their wives, both named Kathy Askew.  The four of them went on many trips together on their bikes and had such great times.  Mickey will be missed so much by all of those who loved him.  Mickey was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Kathy Askew and his mother Beverly Askew; father-in-law, Robert C. Watson and brother-in-law Robert W. Watson.  He is survived by his son Sam; father Bud (Ann) Askew, sister Sandy (Bill) Ekse; brothers Bob (Kathy) Askew, Budd (Irene) Askew and Ron (Vicki) Askew; mother-in-law Betty Watson; sister-in-laws Karen Benoit and Laurie (Glenn) Mitchell; nieces and nephews Ericka (Stephen) Thielke (Clara, Anna), Billy Ekse (Tyler, Grace), Natalie (Justin) Aase (Elijah, Jonah, Ben), Nick (Kayla) Askew (June, Reid), Stevie Askew, Ashley (Amanda) Mitchell, Amy Mitchell, Brandon (Mikala) Watson, Kelsey (Jake) Lenting and Erica Mitchell.
