Merle E. Evers

Merle E. Evers was born December 1, 1924, to Otto and Ellen Evers, in Cusic, Washington. He spent his childhood and teenage years working the family farm, hunting and fishing. He graduated from Cusic High School and then joined the United States Army in 1940. Merle served his country in North Africa and Europe until 1945, where he was honorably discharged in El Paso, Texas. Merle attended Eastern Washington University and played college basketball. After college he began working for Mobil Oil and 1954 moved to Ferndale, Washington. Merle retired from Mobil and purchased his own tractor and trailer, and did long haul driving for 3 years and then officially retired. Merle loved to spend his free time fishing out in the San Juan Islands and camping with his family and friends. Merle’s other passion was his horse Bo whom he spent much of his time with going on trail rides locally, in Eastern Washington, and Idaho with his daughter Kendra. Merle is survived by his wife Fay, his children Ian, Jamie, and Kendra. His grandson Dylan and his brother Glen.
