Obituary

Melody Ann (Greve) Jewell, age 81, passed away on August 20, 2026, in Lynden, Washington.

Melody was born on February 12, 1945, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Fritz A. Greve and Ethel Louise Greve. On June 6, 1963, she married the love of her life, A. Ralph Jewell. Together, Melody and Ralph raised a large and loving family and shared a life grounded in faith, hard work, and devotion to one another. During part of their life together, they worked side by side as long-haul truck drivers.

Melody spent the last 21 years of her working life in the insurance industry, including 16 years working alongside her son Andy at his insurance agency.

Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life. Melody loved studying the Bible and was deeply involved in Bible studies, especially as a leader with Bible Study Fellowship. She had a special love for butterflies because they reminded her of Romans 12:1–2 and the transformation that takes place through Jesus Christ.

Above all, Melody loved spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her devotion to the Lord, her love for her family, and the lasting influence of her faith.

Melody is survived by her children Christina McColl (George), Roxanne Jewell-Richardson (Glenn), Melissa Balding (Vince), Douglas Jewell (Joelle), Amy Jewell-Baxter (Kevin), Sarah Jewell-Gonzalez (Eli), Gloria McCarty (Clint), and Andy Jewell (Becky); 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, with another expected; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Ralph Jewell; her daughters Holly, Charity, and Laurel; her granddaughter Chloe; and her parents, Fritz and Ethel Greve.

A celebration of Melody’s life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Cordata Presbyterian Church, 400 Meadowbrook Court, Bellingham, Washington 98226.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Whatcom Pregnancy Clinic.

Although Melody will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is with her Savior and reunited with those she loved who went before her.
