Mavis C. Dammarell

Mavis Cathleen (Fadenrecht) Dammarell was born September 3, 1949, in Bellingham, WA to Herman and Frieda Fadenrecht. She grew up on a small dairy farm in Blaine. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at 13 years old. She graduated from Blaine High School in 1967 and attended Columbia Bible Institute for 1 year. Mavis worked for US Customs as a clerk typist for a short time and then got a job with Border Brokerage in Blaine where she worked as a clerk typist for over 10 years.

Mavis met Craig Dammarell on a blind date and knew after the first date that there would be wedding bells. She and Craig married July 9, 1977, at Birch Bay MB Church in Birch Bay. They made their home in Blaine and then moved to Ferndale in 1980. Mavis and Craig had four children: Howard, Roy, Beth, and Dean. When the kids were in grade school, Jose Martinez essentially became a 5th child.

While the children were growing up, Mavis worked as a homemaker and volunteered at Central Elementary School where the children attended. She served as co-PTO president and enjoyed helping with costuming for Central’s annual school plays. She was instrumental in the forming of the Ferndale Red Lions Soccer Club, and was their registrar for many years. At one time, all 4 of their children were playing soccer. In 2000, Mavis started working as church secretary for Birch Bay Bible Community Church and served in that role for 13 years. She attended the church her entire life and volunteered in many capacities. She taught Sunday School, served on the Deacon Board and other committees, helped with decorating and Christmas plays, and contributed to the design of the new church building.

Mavis enjoyed gardening, singing, gospel music, making cards, camping with her family, and visiting relatives in places like Alexandria, VA, Connecticut, Japan, Saskatchewan, Colorado, and Kansas. She loved watching her children and grandchildren grow, and was always encouraged by their successes.

Mavis went home to be with her Lord on November 1, 2019, at her home in Ferndale after a valiant 15 year battle with carcinoid cancer. She was 70 years old.

Mavis is survived by husband Craig Dammarell, of Ferndale; children Howard Dammarell (Stacy) of Japan, Roy Dammarell (Maghan) of Bellingham, WA, Beth Whittaker (Eric) of Edmonds, WA, Dean Dammarell (Tiffany) of West Hartford, CT, and Jose Martinez (Kaila) of Blaine, WA. She is also survived by brother Stanley Fadenrecht (Ruth) of Quemado, NM, brother Alfred Fadenrecht (Donna), of Marysville, WA, and nine grandchildren.

Mavis was preceded in death by brother Kenneth Fadenrecht.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Birch Bay Bible Community Church, 4460 Bay Rd., Blaine, WA 98230 with Pastor Tim Thiessen officiating.
