Marvin Richard Elsasser, age 83, passed away on July 14, 2025, at the Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, WA. He was courageous in his 11-year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born on January 24, 1942, in Bellingham, WA to parents Dave and Margaret (Schwab) Elsasser. He graduated from Ferndale High School in 1960 and lived his entire life in Whatcom County.
Marv spent all his early years on the family dairy farm in Ferndale. He learned how to work hard and enjoyed milking cows with his dad. He married the love of his life, Leslie Sturtz, on February 6, 1965. Marv was a devoted husband, Dad, Papa, Brother, Uncle, employer, and friend. He is preceded in death by his wife Leslie and his parents. Marv is survived by his two daughters, Karie Elsasser and Kristie and husband Tim Mark. He is also survived by grandchildren Kyle and Allison (Winterburn) Elsasser, Mandee Olson, Preston Mark and Landon Mark, great grandchildren Daymon Olson and Stevie Elsasser, sister Bev Johnson, cousin MaryKay Perry, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends that he cherished.
Shortly after Marv married Leslie, he began working for his father-in-law at Sturtz Plumbing but continued to raise beef cattle on his small, hobby farm. He started Marv’s Plumbing in 1985. He had several wonderful employees and countless customers that became his friends. He had a passion for helping people! He enjoyed boating, RV’ing, and collecting all sizes of John Deere tractors. He loved playing card games right up until a few days before he passed. Marv was a patient and gentle man that taught his daughters the value of integrity and hard work. He adored Leslie and walked side by side with her for over 60 years. He could not live without his bride and passed 14 days after she did. He faithfully served Jesus his whole life.
Alzheimer’s Disease caused Marv to forget many things in recent years, but he never forgot his family and friends. He always enjoyed the time he spent with all of them. The family would like to thank their relatives, numerous friends and caregiver Tanya for their love and support of Marv and Leslie. Marv’s mind is restored and he and Leslie will spend eternity together in Heaven.
A public graveside service will be held on July 24th at 3pm at Greenacres Cemetery in Ferndale, WA. and will be officiated by Pastor Kurt Langstraat. All are welcome to attend. Arrangements are coordinated by Sig’s Funeral Home.
