It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marlene R. Stern (born as Hoerrle) who passed away on June 25, 2025. She was 89 years old.
Marlene was born on September 21, 1935, in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1960 she immigrated to the United States to build a new life for herself. Marlene became a citizen in 1965 and was very proud to be an American. In 1965, Marlene married Hubert Stern and together they raised two daughters, Andrea and Michele, in upstate New York.
After becoming a widow in 1995, Marlene moved to the west coast to be near her daughter Michele and beloved grandson Severin.
Marlene lived in Bellingham, WA for almost 30 years. She loved volunteering at the Bellingham Senior Activity Center, playing cards with the German club, and going on day trips with her friends.
Known for her sharp wit and captivating storytelling, Marlene had a remarkable ability to light up any room. She was a loving, supportive mother who took great pride in creating a welcoming home.
She had strong relationships with her daughters, son-in-law, Joel, and grandson Severin. Spending time with her family brought her the most joy.
Marlene is survived by her devoted daughters, Andrea Stern and her husband Joel Seymour, and Michele Stern. She also leaves behind her beloved grandson, Severin Hall, who was a great source of happiness and pride.
A celebration of life is scheduled for 1:00-3:00 pm on July 14, 2025 at the Willows, 3115 Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham, WA 98225.
