Leonard David Unruh

Leonard was born in Dalhart Texas and soon moved to Oklahoma where he was surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. At age 7 he moved north to Birch Bay Washington. He, along with his family pioneered a plot of land.  They logged their property, had a sawmill and started a farm, which Leonard eventually purchased and ran until 1986.

He sold the farm business to daughter Vivian and her husband Jay Wheeler but still raised cattle for a few more years.  He and Kathy retired to their home in Birch Bay in 1987 where they had always dreamed of living.  His beach views gave him great joy for the rest of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, son Tim Dean, and many dear friends.

He is survived by the love of his life Kathy (whom he rescued from Canada), children Kevin Unruh, Vivian (Jay) Wheeler, Teresa (Shon) Smith, six grandchildren and their spouses, and two great- grandchildren.

The legacy he leaves behind is one of hospitality, love of food and cooking, travel, and generosity especially in things that furthered the gospel of Jesus and the kingdom of God.

We will miss his quick wit, which he continued to have throughout his eight years of dementia up until his last few days here with us.

A graveside servive will held Thursday, July 21, 2016, 11:00 AM at Enterprise Cemetery, 7041 Vista Dr., Ferndale, WA 98248; followed by a 12:30 PM memorial service at The Church on Bakerview, 414 W. Bakerview Rd., Ste 105, Bellingham, WA 98226
