Deming

Karen Kay Copps Robson passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham Washington. She was born in Deshler, NE on January 15, 1942, to Martin and Hulda (Holtzen) Schnackenberg. The family moved to Custer, WA, when Karen was a child.

Karen is survived by her husband Dave Robson, her sisters Marlene Phillips, Kathleen (Jack) McCann, and Gale (Jerry) Leuenberger, children Kevin (Leslie) Copps, Kelly (Craig) Aument, Cory (Arlene) Copps, and Carlyn Allen. Grandchildren Coley (Laurel), Madi (Dan) Chudek, Luke Aument, Jesse (Megan), Kelsey Copps, Jazlyn (Cody) Chervenock, Justina Allen, Jay Allen and several great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. After her marriage to Dave, Karen welcomed an extended family with Dave’s children: Chris (Stephanie) Robson, Andrew (Dyona) Robson, and Caitlyn (Mark) Forslof. She is preceded in her death by her parents, first husband and father of her children, Howard Copps, brothers; Norm, LaVern, Darrel, and Donald.

Karen will always be remembered for her warm, genuine smile which reflected her beautiful soul. Her love for others showed every day through the kind way she treated everyone. Her love was unconditional, she was completely dedicated to her family.

She had an eye for making her home cozy, warm and inviting. She had a passion for gardening and a talent for creating a beautiful environment around her.  She always had a special place in her heart for animals which she shared through her years as an employee of the Whatcom County Humane Society.  Karen enjoyed traveling with her husband Dave to black powder rendezvous. Karen was a great cook and enjoyed sewing. Camping and fishing were a favorite thing to do on a weekend when her children were young. Karen enjoyed life and was always ready for a good laugh.

The family wants to thank the wonderful care from the hospice caregivers, especially Brooke, Andrea, Martin and Maria, for Karen's in-home care for the past six months, as well as all the staff at the Whatcom Hospice House during her final days. Karen and her family were always treated with respect and dignity; therefore, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation, 2901 Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham, WA 98225.
