Judith Leah Goode

Judith Leah (Dayton) Goode passed away peacefully on the morning of September 12, 2025. She was 88 years young. Judith or Judy resided in Ferndale at the house she shared with her late husband, Donald A Goode. She passed away at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden, WA.

Judy was born in Seattle, Washington on December 28th, 1936 to parents Walter (Walt) Lee Dayton and Grace Lillian Jacques Dayton. She had a fraternal twin, Jerry. When they were young Walt and Grace divorced, and Judy left with Walt while Jerry stayed with Grace. Later on, Walt met Elizabeth Emily “Beth or Bee” Roberts, and they married. Bee gave Walt two more girls, Sally and Rebel, Judy’s half-sisters.

Walt worked for Wilder Construction for a time and while there he met Don Goode and invited him over to the house for a drink after work. While there Judy caught Don’s eye and the rest is history. They dated and then wed. Her and Donald had three kids: Melinda (Mindy), Catherine (Cathy) and Daniel (Dan).

When the kids got old enough Judy wanted to work outside the home to her husband’s objections. It didn’t stop her, and she got a job as a seafood processor and worked there until retirement. Judy had many loves in life, the first being her family. She spoiled them all and really went crazy spoiling her grandkids. Her other passions were food and books. She loved going out to eat and trying new places. There also isn’t a time when someone could say Judy didn’t have a book in her hand, whether it was a paper or digital one.

She was preceded in death by her brother Jerry, two half-sisters, Sally and Rebel, her husband Donald, and her daughter Melinda Goode Johnson.

She is survived by her son Daniel S Goode and daughter Catherine R Goode, nephews Owen Goode and Taly Goode, grandchildren Brandi Salkeld, Brandon Johnson, Derek Goode, and Taylor Goode, and great grandchildren Jayden Johnson, Brantley Goode and Dawson Goode.

A farewell potluck to Judy will be held on September 27th at 3 PM at her home at 1120 Lattimore Rd. for close friends and family. Please contact Brandi Salkeld at 360-393-6112 (text or call) for more information.
