John Charles Griffith

John Charles Griffith, born Aug. 3, 1947 in Perry, Iowa to Leonard Jack and Anne Katherine “Bohannon” Griffith. Passed away at his home Sunday, October 13, 2013, after a courageous battle with Leukemia.

A "Knight in Shining Armor", forever, John Charles Griffith, a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. John served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Camp New Amsterdam in Holland.

John was a highly respected educator who reached his students through his love of teaching and his unique humor. Always "on", a true Leo. He retired from Monroe High School after 30 years of teaching.

"The Big Kahuna" is survived by his loving wife of 29 yrs. Valerie, his devoted sons Gelder Griffith (Donelle) and Christopher Wing (Sandra Suzelle) and loving daughter Megan Griffith. Also, his sister, Janie Lyons (Mike) who loved him so very deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Jack Griffith and his mother Anne Katherine Griffith and brother, Timothy Jack Griffith (Linda).

A private "wake" will be held in the spring on his favorite beach, as John had wanted. A celebration of a life well lived.
