James Michael Harrington

James Michael Harrington, age 81, of Ferndale passed away peacefully at the Whatcom Hospice House with his family present, Monday, May 30, 2016.  Jim was born September 18, 1934 in Olean, New York to parents Michael Joseph and Anna Veronica (Gish) Harrington. He was raised in Olean and worked at Stroehmann Bakery before moving with his family to Ferndale, WA with the expansion of Mobil Oil Refinery.  Jim entered the U.S. Navy Dec. 28, 1954 in Seattle, WA and was honorably discharged Dec. 18, 1958 in Long Beach, CA.  After returning to Ferndale after his military service he had various jobs and he retired from Simplot Foods in Ferndale after many years of employment.  He enjoyed listening to Country Music, watching Baseball and taking long Bus trips cross country, meeting new people and teasing his many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joey and Mike Harrington.  He is survived by his siblings, Julia McMurrary and husband Frank, Paul Francis Harrington and wife Ruby, Mary Elizabeth Sullivan, David Patrick Harrington and Annie Marie Hanna and husband Dave; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.  A memorial open house will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2016 starting at 11:00 AM at United Church of Ferndale, 2034 Washington St., Ferndale, WA 98248. Private family graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ferndale, WA.  In lieu of flowers family suggests memorial donations be made to Whatcom Hospice, 2806 Douglas AV, Bellingham, WA 98225.
