Retired Sergeant First Class, U.S. Army, Jackie E. Peter of Bellingham, WA, died peacefully on the night of Friday, December 19, 2025, at Hospice House in Bellingham, WA. He was born in Bellingham, WA on June 28, 1938 to Llyod August Peter (1912 - 1997) originally from Wilder, Minnesota, and Celia Irene Pierce (1920 – 1991) originally from Harlowton, Montana. Jack entered the United States Army on Sept 21, 1956. His tour included service in Tokyo, Japan (1957-1959); Frankfurt, Germany (1960-1968); Vietnam (1968-1969); Asmara, Ethiopia (1970-1971); Stuttgart, Germany (1971-1976). On May 4, 1969, Jack was awarded The Bronze Star Medal for his service during the Vietnam War. While stationed at Patch Barracks, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany he married Hannelore Peter (nee Stern) of Germany on May 25, 1973. He retired from the U.S. Army in February 1977. After retirement, he entered Western Washington University earning a Bachelor of Education (1980) and Master of Arts in History (1984). He worked as Sales Manager at Ernst Home Center in Bellingham, WA from which he retired after 16 years in June 2000. In 2025, Jack published his autobiography “The Life and Times of Jackie E Peter” with Covenant Books. He was preceded in death by his parents, his half-brother Michael L. Peter, and his wife Hannelore. Surviving is his brother ‘Don’ D. Peter of Acme, WA, and nieces and nephews in Washington State and Germany. He will be laid to rest adjacent to his wife Hannelore in the urn garden at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA with Military Honors. Sig’s Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the family. There will be no public visitation and the family requests no flowers.
