Jack Dale Pomeroy, age 90, of Sumas passed away at his home surrounded by his family Friday, September 16, 2022. He was born July 25, 1932 in Bellingham to parents Thomas Edward and Helen Matilda (Menze) Pomeroy. Jack served one term in the Navy, where he was stationed in Japan and South Korea. Then he enlisted in the Army, where he was selected to serve in the US Army Security Agency unit stationed in England. After he left the Army, Jack and his wife ran a dairy farm in Lynden, before he began  his career in construction.  Jack was adventurous and appreciated good food. He continually tried new foods and recipes. He enjoyed traveling, he visited China, England, and Scotland, in addition to his military service, as well as many states in the US. He knew how to repair anything and was generous with his knowledge and time. Members of the community would often call and visit for information, parts or a piece of lumber. He disliked seeing litter in Sumas and decided to voluntarily clean up the streets while on his daily walk. In retirement, he taught himself decorative woodworking. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop and handcrafted beautiful wood turnings for gifts an decoration. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Betty Heyano and Tom, Richard and Don Pomeroy. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Lois Louise (Cowart) Pomeroy; children, Susan Millay (Mike), Heather Henson (Kevin), George (Jennifer) and Alan (Rieko) Pomeroy; grandchildren, Mallory, Amanda, Jessica, John, Megan, Eileen, Anthony and Timothy; his siblings Kay Pearson, Gail Judge, Mike and Edward Pomeroy and numerous nieces nephews and other relatives. A private family graveside service will be held at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale, Washington. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Whatcom County Fire District #14 (Sumas).
