Ida Louise Vanderhyde

Ida Louise Vanderhyde, age 56, of Ferndale was born July 5, 1957 in McCall, Idaho, to Ruth (Stewart) and Merle Hall. Passed away at her home surrounded by her family, Tuesday, August 6, 2013. She is survived by her mother Ruth; her sisters Cris Hall, Marie Gollen and husband Mike, and Julia Pollock and husband Ken; her children JaNae and Brandon Vanderhyde; their father Lance; her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her father Merle and her brother Bob.

She shared a birthday with her uncle Don Willis. He told Ruth to have Ida on his birthday—it’s the first time Ruth remembers doing as she was told. Uncle Don and Ida had a special closeness: he called her “High Pockets,” and she would crawl up in his lap instead of hiding shyly.

As a girl, Ida was full of life, full of mischief, and very shy. That shyness changed when she became a waitress at Country Kitchen in Ferndale.

Ida was generous and kind. She could out-shop the rest of the family combined (for endurance), and would put away gifts purchased ahead of time, in interesting “safe places.” Family members describe having to “go into training” before their annual trek to Alderwood Mall.

She was passionate about her family. For her, the number one thing was being a mom.

Ida kept her yard and flowers IMMACULATE, and helped keep her mother’s looking their best.

Ida worked at Northwestern Commercial Bank, Ennen’s Foods, a Land and Title Company in Everett, and ReMax Real Estate. Her coworkers found her to be pleasant, careful with details, and a hard worker. She was loyal to the friends she made, and to her Seahawks.

The family would like to offer special thanks to daughter JaNae and nieces Katie and Mary for their round-the-clock caring for Ida and their support. Special thanks also to Whatcom Hospice Foundation for wonderful support in a difficult time, especially Karen W., Carren G., Leigh, Robyn, and Michelle for their skilled, compassionate care.

Memorial Service will be on Saturday August 10, 2013 at 11:00am at Grace Baptist Church, 3920 James Street Road, Bellingham, WA 98226 with Pastor David Dunkin officiating.
