Helen Louise Freeman

Helen Louise Freeman, age 83, of Deming passed away at her home Saturday, April 19, 2025. She was born Dec. 10, 1941 in Bellingham to parents, Ivar Waldmer and Otelia Gabrilla (Norlie) Jonson.  She joins in heaven her beloved husband of sixty years, Jim; and leaves behind her daughters Kirsten, Lotte, and Holly; their partners Bjorn, Donatas, and Michael; and her grandchildren Elise (Nate), Thereon, Quinnlan, and Caeden. Born on December 10, 1941 in Bellingham, WA to Ivar and Gay (Norlie) Jonson, Helen was the fourth of eight children. She grew up on a farm near Ferndale, WA and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1959. In 1962, after completing nurses’ training, she married the boy who first started wooing her in a berry field when they were just thirteen years old. Jim and Helen moved to Snohomish, where Helen balanced working part-time as a nurse, and being a very involved mother to two young daughters. Shortly after the birth of their third daughter, Jim and Helen moved near Deming, WA, where they would spend the rest of their lives. During this time, Helen raised their daughters, worked as a nurse, was active in the church, had amazing gardens, and was the quiet but strong support behind her more extroverted husband. Anyone who met her could tell that Helen’s strong Christian faith was central to her life. In Immanuel Lutheran Church, she found her spiritual home. Church fellowship and activities provided her with a sense of purpose, and she treasured her many friendships there. Helen was known to many people as many things: an exemplary nurse, a great reader, a good friend, a master seamstress/quilter, an amazing gardener, a compassionate listener, a secret silly-pants, a wonderful cook, a reliable helper, and a loving mother. She will be greatly missed by us all. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 5782 Lawrence Rd., Everson, WA 98247
