Hazel Virginia Arbuckle

Hazel Virginia Arbuckle, 99, became one of God's angels on Saturday, March 6, 2021.

She was born February 2, 1922, in Bloomington, Illinois and married to Merrill Wendle Arbuckle (passed away in 1979).  They had three children, Merrill Wendle Arbuckle, Jr., Michael Diane Brewster, and Marny Deborah Barrau.  They lived throughout the U.S. and in Puerto Rico and Spain.  After Merrill retired from the U.S. Air Force, they continued their adventures and spent a year traveling through Europe in a VW camper.  They eventually settled in Smokey Point, Arlington in 1968.

Hazel had a very active social life.  She loved ballroom dancing, marched with the Sauerkraut Band and joined various bowling leagues.  In her 70's she made lots of friends, waited tables as a friend of the cook and modeled llingerie in the Retired Navy Club in Everett.  She also went whitewater rafting, parasailing, and continued her travels to Indonesia, Europe, Central and South America.  She volunteered for over 13 years with the Snohomish Police and the Snohomish Search and Rescue.

In 2013 she moved to Bellingham, WA to live with her daughter Marny Debby.  She was an avid card player in the Senior Center and played bridge on her laptop.  At home she was a puzzle master, loved to read, and regularly beat her grandkids at card games and Mexican Train.  Her mind was sharp until the very end and her humor was ever-present.  A fiercely independent woman who loved her family, friends, rose wine and afternoon cocktails.

Hazel is survived by two children, eight grandkids, eight great grandkids and a handful of great great grandkids.

 GG, you will be missed.
