Harold Lee Chapman

Harold Lee Chapman was born on March 17th, 1932 in Chattanooga, TN. At the age of 3, Harold and older brother Paul moved west when Tom and Grace decided to move to Meadow Glade, WA. He graduated from Walla Walla College with a degree in religion, later earning a master’s degree in education. He began teaching elementary school in 1955 and eventually transitioned to administration, serving as a principal for many years before retiring in 1997 after 42-years of service in the Seventh-Day Adventist school system. Harold believed his work was a special form of ministry to influence young people to pursue a relationship with Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior.

Harold married Pauline Kraemer Norton on May 2nd, 1974. Both had experienced the sudden loss of a spouse the year before. Fittingly they met at the school after Polly’s mischievous son Chuck landed in the principal’s office leading to a parent meeting, a most unusual 1st date.

Living in Citrus Heights, CA since retiring, Harold worked part-time for a number of years driving cars for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, something he enjoyed as it also gave him the opportunity to continue sharing his love of Jesus, though predominately with a distinctively older generation of people.

After a 2 ½ year battle with pancreatic cancer, Harold passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, just two days after celebrating 47-years of marriage with Polly.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Grace (Andersen) Chapman, brother Paul Chapman, first wife Ruby Vollmer Chapman, and his son Chuck Norton.

He is survived by wife Polly Chapman; daughter Laural Chapman; son Doug Chapman and his wife Carolyn; son Brad Norton and his wife Rhonda; daughter Connie Booher and her husband Dan; son Mark Norton and his wife Natasha; Molly Bell and her husband Carey; grandchildren Ella Chapman, Nick Norton, Brianne Booher-Haegy and her husband Andrew, Alissa and Mollie Booher, Nesta, Kevyn, Alex and Max Norton, Carly and Kraemer Bell; great grandchildren Kallie and Kendall Booher-Haegy; sister In-law Pauline Chapman and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
