Gerald (Jerry) Allan Ramerman

Country roads took Gerald (Jerry) Allan Ramerman home. Jerry passed away peacefully Saturday, August 23, 2025 while listening to some good tunes, surrounded by the love of his family. He felt blessed in his last few days to be able to say his “see you later’s” to those he loved. He took that opportunity to share his wisdom and advice, fond memories, and his unparalleled humor and strength with those closest to him. Jerry touched the lives of so many throughout his time on this earth and will be greatly missed. Jerry had a passion for telling jokes and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed reading the classics; “he was sunshine most always—I mean he made it seem like good weather”. He enjoyed cooking (and eating) good food and was always looking for new recipes to try. He loved to call his loved ones and talk for hours about all happenings and would rarely let you off the phone without telling at least one new joke (and saying goodbye a dozen times).

Jerry was born July 11, 1945, in Seattle, WA to Allan and Grace (Brink) Ramerman. He grew up in Alameda California where, in his youth, he got into far too many shenanigans and adventures. Like the time as a boy, he tried his hand as a shipwright and ended up on an epic voyage only to be stranded across the Bay in San Francisco in a (not-so-seaworthy) vessel. In April of 1966 he joined the Army. After being honorably discharged, and a few shenanigans later, he returned to his roots in Whatcom County. He eventually made a leap of faith and joined a local fellowship in search of a better life; he found it. He was a friend of Bill W. for over 47 years. It was there he met the love of his life, his rock, the woman who helped him find his way. Jerry married Claudette Carpenter in 1983. They both shared a passion for and found fulfillment in helping others on their own journey to serenity. “He was a solid dude” and embraced all that came with marrying into a large family; he loved her children as his own and was later blessed with 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Jerry was a loving and devoted husband, a steadfast dad, a goofy grandpa and a solid friend and mentor. Jerry showed us all what true love really means, especially through his unfaltering support and care of his wife after she suffered a paralyzing stroke. Love is patient, love is kind and love never gives up.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudette; his parents Al and Grace, his sister Joyce; his grandson Brett, and so many other close friends and family. He is survived by his sister Beverlee, niece and nephew, nine children and their spouses, fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild and many friends

As Jerry would often say, “Keep the Faith”.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Bellingham St. Joseph Hospital 4th floor intermediate care unit for their exceptional level of care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s memory to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 165 and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Private family services will be held.
