Gary R. Morgan

October 17, 1936 — September 28, 2023

Gary Roland Morgan –  beloved Dad, Grampa, Great Grampa, Husband, friend, life partner and half-side to Irene Lincoln Morgan was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on September 28, 2023.

Gary was born October 17, 1936, the middle son of James Clarence and Ethel (Tharp) Morgan in Bellingham, WA. He was born and raised with his brothers Morrie and Lon on the Pole Road and was proud to be a lifetime ‘Pole Roader’.  He attended Meridian schools where he enjoyed playing in all the sports programs and graduated in 1954.

He met and became acquainted with Irene, his bride of 65 years, through their fathers’ farm businesses. They frequented the Lynden Skateway and enjoyed swimming at Wiser Lake.

Gary and Irene were married September 5th, 1958. In 1959, Gary was drafted and sent to Germany where Irene followed, allowing them to travel throughout Europe during his service. They returned to Pole Road and were soon joined by their two children, Mark & Ellie.

Gary was a skilled and lifelong butcher. He worked in all seven of the local slaughter houses and later owned and operated their family business, Morgan Meats for 20 years.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and was ‘Mr. Fixit’, puttering in his shop. He always had a project in the works and loved to use his old treasures for new purposes and teach the kidlets a thing or two. He always had a story to share and lesson to teach. He was a loved and fiercely loyal friend. He will be remembered for his simple and quick sense of humor and his kindness and caring support of others.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marland (Morrie) and Lon and infant sister Marsha, grandson Curtis Miller and great grandson, Clayton.

He is greatly missed and survived by his wife Irene, children Mark Morgan, Ellie (Steve) Miller, Grands – Chelsie (Bart) Zandstra, Kyle (Mariam) Morgan, Rachel Morgan, Jocelyn Leenders, and 4 Great Grands, his extended family, Laura Morgan, Vivian Junkin and Barbara Hernandez Lincoln, Jim Monroe, John Monroe, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special friend and loyal fishing boat Captain, Richard VanEgdom.
