Floyd Neal Dwight passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on May 16, 2025, at the age of 94.
Floyd was born on September 22, 1930, in Friday Harbor, Washington, to Allan and Myrtle (Rowe) Dwight. He spent his early years on Lopez Island before moving to Custer, Washington at the age of 12. He graduated from Ferndale High School and was later drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951, serving for two years in the United States and Japan during the Korean War.
After returning home, Floyd settled in Custer and began his printing career at Union Printing, working his way from apprentice to journeyman pressman. He later continued his trade at the Lynden Tribune, retiring in 1995.
On October 22, 1955, Floyd married Leola (Alley) Dwight. They celebrated more than 69 years of marriage together.
In retirement, Floyd took great pride in caring for his home in Ferndale, always keeping a beautiful yard and garden—earning a reputation for having the nicest house in the neighborhood. He also took up golf and was a regular at Raspberry Ridge Golf Course in Lynden, where he became fondly known as “that old guy that can still whack the ball!” His true passion, however, was fishing. He treasured every opportunity to be out on the water, searching for “the one that got away” in the many lakes throughout Whatcom County.
Floyd was known for his kindness, generosity, and his gift for conversation. He had a natural ability to connect with others and always made time for a friendly chat.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leola Dwight; his children: son Frank Dwight, daughter and son-in-law Leanne and Jim Unruh, and son and daughter-in-law Tim and Ashley Dwight; grandchildren: Jessie Dwight, Angie Davidsen, Amy Garza, Alissa Dwight-Blume, Kristen Corning, Sarah Warren, Tyson Unruh, Kailey Unruh, and Asher Dwight; and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Marlene Talman and Linda (Jim) Ness. He was preceded in death by his sister Eileen Fenton and brother Dale Dwight.
