Eleanore Sundean

On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, our beloved mother, Eleanore Sundean went home to be with Jesus. She was born Aug. 26, 1929 to Jehu Odd & Kezia (Hestad) Lunde. There was a surprise when that day finally came, her twin sister Elaine! A few changes had to be made, a few more clothes and another crib had to be purchased to take to the homestead in Montana.  They rode horses to school when they could and Grandpa would hitch the sleigh in the winter, as they lay tucked under the straw for the ride.  One year Grandpa decided that girls needed more than the one room school could provide and moved them to New York. Story has it that Grandpa made it 6 months and went back to Montana. Grandma, the girls and their brother Jim stayed behind to finish the school year and their confirmation. The family moved to Ferndale in 1945, where Mom graduated from Ferndale High School in 1949 and began her career. She was many different things from an office manager for Petrolane and ONC, waitress (Johnson’s, Eagle Roost, and Jack Martin’s) to name a few. Then onto beauty counselor makeup, Jansen’s Floral, and finally to the Ferndale Post office as a rural carrier, where she finally retired after 25 years. Mom was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother and two husbands. Mom is survived by her children, Darlene Zimmer (Phil), Marvin Heinrichs, Connie Lootens (Lance), and Cathy Howard (Travis); eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; twin sister Elaine Hanson and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 26, 2017, 1:00 PM at Enterprise Cemetery, 7041 Vista Dr., Ferndale. After the service you are all invited to the home of Cathy Howard, 6968 Dahlberg Rd. Ferndale, WA for sandwiches, coffee and cookies. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Eleanore’s name to Hospice at whatcomhospice.org or the Alzheimer Society of Washington.
