Edwin F. Whitehead

Edwin F. Whitehead was born 1/20/1929 in Yakima, WA to Lewis and Francis (Foster) Whitehead, the 3rd of 4 boys. He passed away in the early morning of 11/24/2013 after a long brave fight with Multiple Myeloma. He fought the battle head on, never losing his sense of humor and defying death multiple times. Ed knew his wife Rae for 65 years and they had a truly special marriage that spanned 58 years and produced 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his truly amazing wife Rae; his children Greg (Janeen), John (Kristen), Wendy (Chris Johnson), and Sally (Kris Runestrand); his grandchildren Deanna (Aadam), Stefanie, Maddie, Kylie, Tim, Nick, Evan, Dane, Mikel, Levi, Joshua (Tessa), Maghan (Roy), Kelly (Oscar), and Jesse; Daughter in law Tracy; and great grandchildren Rylie, Corbin, Eli, Bayley, Frankie, Presley, Isabelle, and Jack; his brother Jerry; and many very close nieces and nephews. His son, Scott, and granddaughter, Whitney, tragically preceded him in death, as well as his mother, father, and brothers Stanley and Robert.

Ed was a veteran of the Korean War (navy medic). He worked as a banker, grocery salesman, construction worker and many years as a laborer with LIUNA, retiring as the business manager of Local Laborers 276. He was an extremely dedicated employee, always showing up 15 minutes early for work and rarely taking a sick day or a vacation day.

Easy Ed loved his wife Rae Baby and his kids and grandkids more than anything else. He was a true family man and his kids could do no wrong, especially his grandkids! He had many extremely close lifelong friends and was immensely loyal and fun loving. He had the good fortune of living his retirement years looking out over the canal at Sandy Point. Hospice was a true godsend and Ed lived his last days right where he wanted to live them with his wife
Rae by his side and frequent visits from his kids and grandkids.

There will be a gathering to celebrate Ed's Life Saturday Nov.30, 2013 11am-2pm in the Great Hall at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 2117 Walnut St, Bellingham, WA. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Whatcom County Hospice.
