Edwin Lee Bouma

Edwin Lee Bouma, age 70, was born on May 17, 1947 to Preston and Lona Bouma in Bellingham, WA. Lee lived in Seattle during his early years coming to Blaine by train on the weekends to stay with his grandparents. By his freshman year in high school he had moved to Blaine, fishing in the summers. He fell in love with fishing those summers working on the boat and that led to his 45 year career of Gillnetting. He gillnetted all throughout the Puget Sound, Alaska, and California. He could usually be found on the dock mending a net or preaching the gospel. His last several years he enjoyed driving the Blaine School Bus, especially when his grandsons were old enough to start riding his bus route.  Lee is survived by the love of his life, Jerre; children Heidi (Mark) Oostra, Preston (Rachelle) Bouma, and Newton (Michelle) Bouma; grandsons Tyler, Peyton, Isaac, Riley, and Jacob Bouma and Nathan Oostra; granddaughter Peyton Millar and Carmen Oostra; nephews Brian and Brent Ambrose; great nephews Jordan and Ryder Ambrose; sisters-in-law Sandi (Larry) Brant and Kim (Mike) Schouten; nephews, and several cousins in Lynden. In the words of an old time fisherman, “No sniveling.”
