Douglas Jay Ten Kley

Douglas J Ten Kley, age 61, husband, father, brother, and friend died peacefully on Thursday August 8, 2013 while asleep on the back patio of his home.

Doug had a sunny disposition, a contagious laugh, and built lasting relationships with many throughout the community of Vancouver, WA where he lived the majority of his life. He was employed by West Coast Bank where he served for nearly 25 years. Doug's core values stemmed from his Biblical convictions and his faith in God. His friendship and wise council will be sorely missed.

He loved his wife and children above all, and took the time to make many memories with them on vacations, and working alongside them while catching salmon in Alaska. Doug enjoyed volunteering his time at Laurelwood Baptist Church, served for over a decade on the board at Portland Christian Schools, served on the board of Marriage Team, and played a key role in financing many notable developments in the Portland and Vancouver areas as a commercial banker with West Coast Bank.

Doug was born in Lynden Washington, graduated from Mt. Baker High School, and graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible, and attended Mt. Hood Community College. While at Multnomah he met his future wife, Judith A. Vantrease, and they decided to make the Portland/Vancouver area home. They had three children, Reid, Rian, and Krystal, and as a family they spent every summer in remote Alaska commercially fishing for salmon. Doug loved puzzles, administering personality tests, downhill skiing, golfing, and singing in the choir at church. Doug’s desire was to submit to God, and in so doing bettered the lives of others.

A diagnosis of glioblastoma multiforme in May of 2011 necessitated a retirement from Doug’s position at West Coast Bank, which was particularly hard because he so enjoyed his work and the people he worked with. Doug always had a positive attitude, and enjoyed several meaningful years with his family after receiving this devastating diagnosis.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 17th at 6:30pm at Laurelwood Baptist Church, 17015 NE 6th St., Vancouver, WA. A graveside was held on Tuesday August 13th at Evergreen Memorial Garden in Vancouver, Washington

Doug is survived by his wife Judy of 36 years, son Reid Ten Kley (Eike), son Rian Ten Kley, daughter Krystal Ten Kley, brothers Rod (Lori), Gary (Judy), and Glenn (Barbara) Ten Kley, and sister Marva Aase (Sig) and numerous other family. Doug was preceded in death by his mother Henrietta, father Marvin, and brother Mike.

Special thanks to the many caregivers and hospice workers who helped Doug stay comfortable at home in his final weeks. Donations may be made in his honor to Community Home Care; P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632
