Dorothy Teresa Polinder

December 20, 1955 — April 29, 2023

Lynden

Dorothy Teresa Polinder, Loving Wife, Mother, and Grammy entered into heaven on April 29th, 2023. She was born December 20, 1955 to Ed Speelman and Tena (deJong) Speelman in Bellflower, CA.

Dorothy met Scott Polinder in high school and they were married on June 17, 1975 and they enjoyed 47 wonderful years together.  They lived in Lynden throughout their marriage and raised three children, Angela, Christopher, and Courtney. Dorothy took great joy in her children and grandchildren and was their biggest cheerleader. She lovingly invested in the lives of each of them and was the best Grammy anyone could ask for. She made every holiday and family gathering special and prioritized spending time with the people she cherished.  Her love will continue to live in the hearts of her family and friends.

She demonstrated God’s love through her kindness and generosity. She had a twinkle in her eye, a beautiful smile, and was always up for a good laugh. Dorothy continually found ways to bless the people around her. She was a loyal friend and enjoyed riding her bike, going out for lunch, or shopping with her friends. She appreciated a good cup of coffee and sitting in her beautiful backyard with Scott. Dorothy looked forward to going to small group on Tuesday nights and cared deeply for each of her friends. She faithfully visited her Mom regularly at the Christian Healthcare Center and made many friends there also.

Dorothy, or known as “Dot” to many of her co-workers, drove school bus for over 30 years, first at Lynden School District and then for the Meridian School District.  She was devoted to her job and considered it her mission to greet each student with a smile to start their school day. She volunteered countless hours for Cornwall MOPs in childcare and serving in the Salt on the Street Ministry.  Dorothy was diligent about keeping a clean house, a great cook and baker, and her delicious Nanaimo Bars will be missed.

Rest gently Mom, you are now free from your pain. Please give Chris a big hug for us. The footprint you left here on this earth will never be forgotten.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Scott, her daughter Angela TenKley and her husband Kyle, son Courtney Polinder and his wife Heidi, and 5 grandchildren, Conner, Sydney, and Addison TenKley, and Brooklyn and Cole Polinder.  She is also survived by her siblings Rea (Bernie) Korthuis, Margaret (Matt) Schilperoort, Harry Speelman, Lois (Mark) Lovrien,  and mother in-law Glenda Polinder, in-laws Fred (Gracene) Polinder III, Debbie (Arnold) Rottier, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Polinder, sister-in-law Onalee Johnson, father-in-law Fred Polinder Jr., father Ed Speelman, and her mother Tena Speelman in March of 2023.
