Doris Colleen Johnson

Doris Colleen Johnson, age 77, beloved sister, mother, gramma, and great-gramma, was born on November 10, 1934 in Bellingham, Washington to Harvey James and Theresa (Jones) Perry.

Doris passed away at home in Ferndale on Friday, June 15, 2012 from Leukemia, surrounded by family. Doris was one of nine children and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1952. During her high school years, she met her husband Marvin Leroy Johnson. They were married on September 23, 1952 in Ferndale at the United Methodist Church. After their wedding Marvin and Doris moved out to the family farm on Grandview Road and started their family, having 5 children within 5 years. Her lifelong interests included gardening and cooking but there was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with babies and children, especially her 25 great-grandchildren. Doris spent more than 25 years caring for the children in her church nursery and was considered “Gramma” to almost every child she met. Later in life she became involved in ceramic doll making and caring for the elderly. She had a love for travel and always enjoyed a long car ride or roadtrip.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Marvin L. Johnson, in October 2003. She is survived by her daughter Connie (Gerry) Moreau; four sons David (Barbara), Steve (Betsy), Myron (Cheryl), and Brian (Deanne) Johnson; her 14 grandchildren Christopher (Katrina), Clayton (Camea), and Casey (Jennie) Moreau, Kyle (Christy) Johnson, Courtney Burnett, Kara Johnson, Lydia (Bryan) Christensen, Angela (Jay) Bradish, Matthew (Meghan) Johnson, Michael Johnson, Mallory (Brad) Walton, Mitchel Johnson, Nathan Johnson and Jennifer (Joshua) Husband; her 25 great-grandchildren Oliver, Audrey, Gideon, Eloise, Evelyn, Stella, Fisher, Sophia, Ava, and Harvey Moreau, Elle Johnson, Mariah and Aubrey Burnett, Amanda, Emma, Charlotte, and Cole Christensen, Taylor, Blake, and Dexter Bradish, Hailey and Paige Johnson, Cooper and Carson Walton, Janelle Husband; her 26th great-grandchild to be born later this year; brothers Jim, Dale, and Ted; sister Judy; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Family and close friends will gather for a graveside service at Enterprise Cemetery, Ferndale followed by a Memorial Service, Wednesday, June 20 at 2:00 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center, 2550 Thornton Road in Ferndale. The family invites everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Gramma to join them for her memorial.
