Dolores Mildred Forthun, 93, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Wed. Jan. 24, 2024.  Dolores was born on June 15, 1930 in Bellingham, WA to Russell and Ora (Hallett) Scott.  She had 5 siblings.  In 1949, Dolores married Joseph A. Holtrop and they had five boys.  In 1966, she married Paul H. Forthun and they had 1 daughter. Dolores had many occupations throughout her life, including working at Smith’s Gardens and Newberry’s Department Store, bookkeeping, owner of Crossroads Café and dairy farmer.  She loved to knit, bake and work in her flower and vegetable gardens and really loved watching the Seahawks and Mariners.  Dolores was a loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family. Dolores was preceded in death by her first husband Joe, sisters Iris Hall, Lois Swenson and Donna Daniels, brothers Don Scott and Robert Scott, second husband Paul Forthun, son James Holtrop, daughters-in-law Betty Holtrop and Sue Holtrop, grandson James Holtrop, Jr and great-granddaughter Esther Holtrop. She is survived by her children Jerry (Kathy) Holtrop, Ken Holtrop, Daryl Holtrop, Joe (Karen) Holtrop, Becky (Jeff) Buras, grandchildren Joe (Melanie) Holtrop, Jason (Rhonda) Holtrop, Jennifer (Steve) Mordhorst, Heather (Ryan) Heutink, Ryann Holtrop, Kristina Holtrop, Hilary Holtrop, Erik Holtrop and Jordan Buras as well as 8 great-grandchildren. At Dolores’ request, no services will be held and a private burial will be held at a later date at Monumeta Cemetery in Lynden.
