Dennis "Denny" L. Nieuwendorp

Dennis L. Nieuwendorp (Denny), born July 6, 1951 in Bellingham, Washington, passed on Friday, November 2, 2018. Grew up in Lynden with his brothers, Mark and Steve, and raised by his caring parents, Denny enjoyed a carefree childhood going to church on Sundays and attending Lynden High School, After his days of youth, he continued to grow and later attended college studying forestry which led to working with the U.S. Forest Service in Glacier. Discovering quickly that working in the woods as a logger would be much more lucrative, he went to work as a “cutter”, where he dropped some of the biggest trees around. He was a hard worker, trusted and legendary - being able to fall dangerous and challenging trees in the most impossible situations. Fellow loggers felt safe when working with Denny, knowing that he always had their back. His interests were always the interests of others. Logging for over 47 years led to his passion with wood working where he spent countless hours in his shop creating amazing wooden bowls, urns, utensils, and countless other treasures. Denny was a true artist. Friends and family will continue to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Being selfless and generous, he donated his artfully crafted wooden bowls for Hospice and Humane Society fundraisers. From rescuing injured wildlife...to his bountiful donations, his active involvement with the community touched the lives of so many who never had the opportunity to meet this sweet charismatic “soul of the woods”. Whether gathering agates while combing the beaches of Tofino to climbing the dunes of the Oregon coast, Denny and Linda shared a love full of memories that many can only dream of. Dennis is preceded in death by both of his parents, Lowell C. and Georgia Nieuwendorp. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his brothers Mark and Steve. His sons Darin and DJ. His stepsons Caleb Schramer (his partner Jordan Clark), Michael Gallier (his wife Anna). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Denny’s name to Whatcom County Humane Society or Hospice of Whatcom County. A celebration of life will be at the Deming Log Show on Saturday, March 30th at 2:00. Food and Birdsview Brew will be provided. Dennis leaves behind a loving legacy of joy and laughter for all. To all those wishing to attend, please bring your stories of yesteryear to share with us all.
