Dean Lyle Radder was the seventh of nine children born to Elmer and Theresa (Hento) Radder. The family lived on the County Farm at Northwest and Smith Roads where they milked a herd of Holsteins. After a move to Bellingham, Dean graduated from Bellingham High School and went on to receive an AA degree from Bellingham Technical College, becoming a machinist. He worked at Skagit Steel, Canyon Industries, and retired from Pederson Bros. Dean and brother Darrell enjoyed racing modified and sprint cars at Skagit Speedway in the 1970’s and 80’s. It was a milestone for Dean when he bought his home just outside Everson in the 1990’s. He added a shop where he restored a ‘57 Chevy Belair and a 1955 Ford pickup. Dean had a kind heart and was always glad to be helpful. More than once was a stranded motorist rescued by him. He helped brother Dale frame a house, using enough nails to guarantee the place would never fall down or blow away. He liked to host Radder family Thanksgiving, helping sister Kathy stuff the turkey with their mom’s secret recipe. As if a turkey dinner wasn’t enough, he filled bowls and bowls of nuts and candy for his guests. A nearly life-ending stroke in 2016 left him somewhat dependent on others, but he was able to stay in his own home except for the last three days of his life. Dean died at Whatcom Hospice House on October 7, 2025, after a valiant 5-year fight with colorectal cancer. He was grateful for and encouraged by Drs. Weerasinghe, Shergill, and Young, and the caring staff at the PeaceHealth Cancer Center. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Diana Kay Radder and Kathy Sherfey and brother Darwin. He’s survived by brothers Darrell, Dale, and Don; sisters Karen Bellingar and Karolyn Radder, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a good brother. A celebration of Dean’s life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2025 at the Glen Echo Community Club 7694 Goodwin Rd., Everson, WA. In honor of Dean, dress casually.
