David J. Strickler

David J. Strickler, age 76, of Bellingham, peacefully passed away Monday, October 7, 2013, at Silverado Senior Living with his family by his side.

David was born in Bellingham on May 13, 1937, to Eva and Everett Strickler. David worked for Georgia Pacific until 1969. He, then, began his career in construction, which culminated in 1983 with the formation of his business, S&S Concrete, with his wife, Sharon. David took great pride in his work and retired in 2002. Among the many of S&S Concrete’s accomplishments are Barclay Boulevard, Cordata Parkway, Bellis Fair parking lot, and Shuksan Golf Course.

David enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, traveling the country in his motorhome, visiting Hawaii and touring Europe with his family. He was always ready for a party and happy to fire up the BBQ. David loved working in his yard and his annual Christmas decorating was a sight to behold. He cherished following his grandchildren’s activities, whether it was basketball, football, baseball, soccer, motocross, or a school function.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Darrell and Dale. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, of 44 years; his sister, Dixie Westburg; his children, Joe (Kristen) Strickler of Wentworth, MO, Kari Strickler of Ferndale, and Dennis Strickler of Anchorage, Alaska; his stepchildren, Brian (Suzie) Johnson of Aberdeen, Scotland, Lori (Hap) Nightingale of Bellingham, Coni (Richard) Henderson of Wasilla, Alaska, and Kim (Carl) Tripp of Bellingham; and by his twelve grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.

In his final years he was fortunate to have the support of Staying Connected, Adult Day Health, and Silverado Senior Living.

A Celebration of David’s Life will be held Monday, October 14, at 11 am, at Shuksan Golf Course, 1500 E. Axton Road, Bellingham, WA 98226.

His family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and staff at Silverado Senior Living for their loving care and kindness in his final months.

Memorials may be made in David’s name to the Alzheimers Society of Washington (1308 Meador Ave Suite C1, Bellingham 98229) and Whatcom Hospice (2901 Squalicum Pkwy, Bellingham 98225).
